BPMO Jatha Reaches Interiors of Bengal

TMC Attack on Jatha, Hooligans finally escape

The Jatha, arranged by the Bengal Platform of Mass Organisations (BPMO), now reaches remote parts of the districts. Thousands of people, mostly peasants, joined the rallies and made it a massive success. Organisers believe, more and more people will join the rallies to promote their basic demands for democracy. However, TMC attack on the rallies continued even on Tuesday.

People Resist TMC Attack on Jatha in Burdwan

Peasants and other commoners of the district started rallies from Bhatar and Burwan Sadar. They had to face the hooliganism of TMC in both the areas. Some bike riders with attacked the rallies and opened firearms, but they had to take the escape route as people strongly resisted them. CPI (M) State Secretary Surya Kanta Mishra suggested that people are organising themselves now, they are resisting the atrocities and TMC is afraid of that.
Various bike riders has threatened the commoners on Sunday, but people did not pay any heed and took part in the rally throughout the district. On Monday, TMC supported hooligans, with the help of the police, attacked a rally of more than 250 people. But the people resisted valiantly and ultimately, the hooligans ran away. Two leftist leaders were injured due to the attack. They were admitted in a nearby hospital.

The people raised questions regarding the basic necessities including shortage of water supply in farming, not getting adequate value for their crops, deprival of the assured 100 days’ work, complications in the realisation of allowance for senior citizens etc. Apart from Burdwan Sadar and Bhatar, long rallies and gathering of common people were witnessed in Mangalkot, Kahana Junction, Orgram and other places of the district.

Jatha Attarcts More Mass in Murshidabad

In the last four years the TMC government was unable to have a strong grip over the district of Murshidabad. Consequently, they have taken unfair means to wipe away the political ooponents. People of the district raised their voce against the atrocities and their basic demands were clearly reflected in the 11 Jatha rallies which have been conducted till now in Baharampur. The District Secretary of CPI(M) Mriganka Bhattacharya said that they obtained overwhelming support from the people. Eight Jatha rallies were conducted in Bhagangola and Raninagar area. Former MP Mainul Hassan lead the rallies in those areas. Former Minister of the Left Front government Anisur Rahman took up the leadership of the rally in Domkal.

Hooghly Demands Industry

The people of Hooghly are still bearing the wound left by the deserted automobile project. The incumbent government had assured them about repairing of the damage. But nothing was yielded in the last four years. Consequently, the anger of the people was gushed out through the rallies which have been conducted in Hooghly district. People who stood against the earlier Left Front government, with a big hope for a positive change, now joined the rally to vent out their grievances against the TMC government. Farmers are not getting the value of their crops, the automobile industry of Hindmotors is counting its days, all the jute mills of Serampore area are on the verge of extinction. Under such circumstances, people have joined in 94 Jatha rallies in Konnagar, Chandannagar, Tarakeshwar and other areas of the district. Former Left Front minister Sudarshan Ray Chaudhury told that TMC supporters are fragmented by their internal collisions. Even the police could not control them. 113 mass organisations have organised rallied throughout Hooghly.

The TMC vandals tried to terrify the commoners, but all their efforts went in vein as more than one thousand people joined the rallies. The rallies covered 223 kilometres including 242 electoral booths of 131 villages. Participation of people in Nandigram region was noteworthy.
