Rallies Provide Solidarity to
Cooch Behar Peasants
The district of Cooch Behar
has witnessed resistance from common peasants against the atrocious landlords.
The Jatha rallies, initiated by the Bengal Platform for Mass Organisations
(BPMO), provided the much needed support to those peasants on Tuesday.
Tufangunj block of the district virtually turned into an invincible fortress
for the Leftist workers for the past four and half years. On October 30, some
landlords, accompanied by TMC vandals, came to take away the crops from the
fields capitalising on the situation. But they were strongly resisted by 32 peasants’
families. Political tension cropped up since then. But nothing could diminish
the courage of the peasants and they continued to resist valiantly. Thay joined
the rallies to place their demands once more. Apart from Tufangunj, rallies
covered 262 electoral booth areas of Cooch Behar – 2 block. Mathabhanga block
has already witnessed rallies which covered 75 of the 193 electoral booth
areas.
Rallies got massive support in
Dooars and tea estate regions. Peasants, labourers, students, youth and women
formed a large portion of the rallies. All the rallies will assemble on
Naovember 26 in Banarhat to hold a meeting there. Adding to this, Jatha rallies
received mass support in Falakata and Alipurduar.
Self-Help Groups Join
Jatha in Murshidabad
Once upon a time, as many as
five lacs women organised themselves and formed self-Help groups. But now
all their efforts seem to have been wasted. They are not getting the help which
was promised by the government. The peasants are not getting value for the
crops. Guaranteed 100 days’ work is yet to be realised. Consequently, families
in the rural areas of Murshidabad are facing immense financial difficulty. When
Jatha rallies entered those regions of Dhulian, Jangipur, Domkal, Beldanga,
Sagardighi, Islampur and Farakka, members of the self-dependent groups joined
them and the number of participants reached five thousand.
Rallies Amid Festivity in
Maldah
The people of Maldah are
continuing their festive season with Chhat and Kartik Puja. But that could not
restrict the participants in the rallies. Various local Jatha rallies ended
their campaign on Tuesday and Wednesday. Chanchol and Gajole witnessed meetings
within the rallies. On the whole, rallies in Malda became a massive success
owing to mass mass participation.
Burdwan Counters Reign
of Terror
TMC supported hooligans tried
to terrify the common people of Burdwan and warned them about their political
affiliation. But when the Jatha rallies reached the regions of Bhatar, the
participants were received cordially by the commoners. Tribal people,
minorities, peasants, women formed the largest portion of rallies in various
parts of the district.
Purulia Demands Water
The farmers of Purulia are
facing problem regarding the irrigation system for a long period time. But they
hardly received any help from the government. On Tuesday, they joined the Jatha
rallies and placed their demands once more. The region is arid geographically.
Now, acute shortage of water is adding more to their misery. Despite their
hardship, a large number of people joined Jatha rallies throughout the district
Jatha Gains More
Support in Howrah and Hooghly
The people of Hooghly refused
to surrender to the hooliganism by TMC and joined the Jatha rallies
spontaneously. The rallies are now covering remote areas of the districts of
Howrah and Hooghly. The affected jute mill workers joined the rallies to let
people know about their conditions. A good number of rallies were organised in
the two districts and participation of the people was noteworthy.
Jatha Enters
‘Invincible’ Nandigram
For the past few years,
Nandigram became a ‘forbidden zone’ for the Leftist workers. But on Tuesday,
Jatha rallies overcame all the difficulties and entered into Nandigram. People
raised their voice against the unholy nexus of TMC, Jamat, Maoists and BJP and
their mindset was clearly reflected through their participation in the rallies.
Eminent Left Front Leader Rabin Deb led the rallies in Nandigram. According to localities,
various people could not join the rallies as they were afraid of the ongoing vandalism
by TMC. Nevertheless, more than 500 people people joined the rallies in two
blocks of Nandigram. They placed their demand for proper wage rate and value
for crops. Besides, rallies were held in different parts of East Midnapore
including Pashkura, Mahishadal, Bhagabanpur ans Patashpur.
People Rise Against
Government in North Dinajpur
More and more people are
joining Jatha rallies in different parts of North Dinajpur district to raise
their voice against the state government as well as the central government.
Effect of the rally struck the most in Itahar area. People clearly conveyed
their worries regarding crimes against women. They clearly suggested that the
state government and the central government are not performing their duties to
prevent such atrocities. Thousands of people rallied 27 kilometers on Tuesday
and as many as 660 electoral booths have been covered in last four days. The
condition of the district has further deteriorated due to the decaying national
highways. Polit Bureau member Md. Salim had informed Chief Minister Mamata
Banerjee regarding the condition but the state government shrugged off their
responsibilities citing the reason that the national highway system is under
the central government. People from different strata of the society joined the
rallies and made the Jatha a massive success.
Tribal People Join
Jatha in Birbhum
The tribal people of Birbhum
are putting up with atrocities of TMC for the past few years. Severe torture,
murders and other heinous crimes have been committed against them, but they had
to bear all the difficulties due to their worsening financial condition. They
have been deprived of the 100 days’ work scheme for the past two years. Tribal
labourers are getting meager amount of wage. As result, when the rallies
reached the interiors of the district, the tribal people joined them. Already
more than 100 rallies and 200 meetings have been organized throughout the
district. Organisers suggested that with the participation of the tribal people
the Jatha will be a massive success in Birbhum.
