KOLKATA: MORE than
hundred mass organisations met in a joint convention at Rani Rashmoni Road and
announced the programme of the movement on peoples’ issues. Bengal Platform for
Mass Organisations (BPMO) will lead joint struggles against the anti-people
policies of both central government and the TMC led state government.
This is for the first time that such mass
organisations representing all sections of people have come together to
organise struggle against the union and the state government.
The platform
has decided to hold joint conventions at district and block level and conduct
jathas in all the 77 thousand booths of the state. Initially 15 point charter of demands will be
placed before the people.
The
convention was represented by leaders of trade unions, peasant organisations,
teacher- student-youth-women organisations.
Addressing
the convention, AIKS leader Madan Ghosh said, the rural people in the state are
facing acute distress. The peasants are gradually organising resistance to the
all-out attack on their livelihood. CITU leader Shyamal Chakraborty criticised
the policies of the centre and said the state government is pursuing the same
policies. CITU leader Basudeb Acharya called upon the people to organise
resistance against attack on democracy from the grass root level.
